Recommendation from the Recreation and Cultural Arts Advisory
Board
At their meeting today, the Recreation and Cultural Arts Advisory Board passed the
following motion:
A motion was offered by Ms. Simmons and seconded by Mr. Gustin to
recommend to the Commission that the Bandshell [proposed for Founders
Park) be enclosed in the back so as to be acoustically feasible and that the
floor be suitable for dancing. The motion passed unanimously.

Recommendation to Council by Recreation and Cultural Arts
Advisory Board
At their meeting on February 25, 1997, the members of the Recreation and Cultural
Arts Advisory Board unanimously passed a motion recommending that the City Council
establish an Aventura Historical Society. A copy of the minutes of that meeting is
attached hereto.

ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
FEBRUARY 25,1997 -1 P.M.

I. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Community Services Director
Robert Sherman at 1 :05 p.m.

Irving Kanowitz
William Heiberger

Janet Laine
Dr. Joseph Hardy
Donna Miller (arrived after approval of minutes)
Staff:

II. Approval of Minutes. A motion to approve the minutes of the November 21, 1996
and January 28, 1997 meetings was offered by Mr. Kanowitz, seconded by Ms.
Laine and unanimously passed.
III. Chairman's Report. None
IV. Staff Report. Mr. Sherman advised the Board of the success of the recent Arts
Festival and provided Program and Performing Arts Series updates.
V. Other Business.
A. Election of Chair and Vice Chair. A motion to appoint Ruth Demming as Chair
was offered by Mr. Heiberger, seconded by Mr. Kanowitz and unanimously passed.
A motion to appoint Janet Laine as Vice Chair was offered by Mr. Heiberger,
seconded by Ms. Bernstein and unanimously passed.
B. City Historical Sub-Committee. Ms. Laine expressed her concerns as to the
need for the establishment of an historical society for the City of Aventura. A motion
that the Board recommend to the City Council the establishment of the City of
Aventura Historical Society was offered by Ms. Laine seconded by Mr. Kanowitz and
unanimously passed.
Board members requested that next month's agenda include discussion of a City-
sponsored picnic.
It was the consensus of the Board to continue monthly meetings. Mr. Sherman
announced that the next meeting was scheduled for March 25, 1997 at 1 p. m.
There being no further discussion, the meeting adjourned at 1:45 p.m.
