CITY OF AVENTURA RECREATION AND CULTURAL ARTS ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MARCH 15, 1999 9:30 A.M. AVENTURA GOVERNMENT CENTER 2999 NE 1915T STREET SUITE 500 AVENTURA, FLORIDA I. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Janet Laine. City Clerk Teresa M. Smith called the roll. Members present: Elaine Baxter Don Gustin Janet Laine Lenore Toby Simmons Members absent: Mindy Bloom Ruth Demming Irving Kanowitz Others present: Community Services Director Robert M. Sherman City Clerk Teresa M. Smith Parks-Recreation Superintendent Lisa Jaye Mayor Arthur I. Snyder A motion to excuse the absences of Ms. Bloom, Ms. Demming and Mr. Kanowitz was offered by Ms. Baxter, seconded by Ms. Simmons and unanimously passed. II. Approval of Minutes. A motion for approval of the minutes of the February 16, 1999 meeting was offered by Ms. Baxter, seconded by Ms Simmons, and unanimously passed. III. Chairman's Report. At the request of Ms. Laine, Mr. Sherman provided to Board members a recap of all programs and events generated and approved by this Board to date. Ms. Laine requested that this list be incorporated into the -. minutes. Ms. Simmons reported on her site visit, with Mr. Sherman and Ms. Jaye, to the auditorium at Point East. A motion was offered by Mr. Gustin, seconded by Ms. Simmons and unanimously passed to recommend that staff further research the feasibility of utilizing these facilities for City cultural programs. IV. Staff Report. A. Sprina Concert Update. Ms. Jaye confirmed that the FlU Jazz Band will be performing at the southern portion of Founders Park on April 18, 1999 at 5:30 p.m. B. Aventura Sona Contest Proposal. Mr. Sherman provided contest description, rules, eligibility requirements. C. ProQram and Special Events Update. Ms. Jaye reviewed the proposed program and special events scheduled thru August 1999. A motion for approval was offered by Mr. Gustin, seconded by Ms. Simmons and unanimously passed. D. Volunteer Criteria. Mr. Sherman provided Board members with criteria for volunteers at Aventura events. Board to review and discuss at a future meeting. V. Meetina Dates: Ms. Laine announced the next meeting will be held on April 26, 1999 at 9:30 am. VI. Other Business: None. VII. Adioumment.
