Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Janet Laine at 10:00 a.m. City Clerk Teresa M. Soroka called the roll. Members present: Janet Laine Patricia Crook Irving Kanowitz Barbara Brighton Lenore Toby Simmons Members absent: Don Gustin RandiRapp Others present: Commissioner Arthur Berger Robert M. Sherman, Director of Community Services Teresa M. Soroka, CMC, City Clerk II. Approval of Minutes: After motion made by Ms. Crook, seconded by Ms. Brighton and unanimously passed, the minutes of the April 24, 2000 meeting were approved. IV. Staff Report: (Taken out of order) A. Broward County Cultural Affairs p~ !sentation: Jody Horn, representative of the Broward County Commission on Cultural Affairs provided a slide presentation and information concerning Public Art and Design in Broward 'l. County. After discussion by the Board, at the suggestion of Ms. Laine, a motion was offered by Mr. Kanowitz, seconded by Ms. Brighton and unanimously passed to recommend that the concept of a Cultural Arts Masterplan for the City of Aventura be researched. Further, the Board requested that a representative from Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs be invited to address the Board at a future meeting. III. Chairman's Report: Ms. Laine discussed plans for Founders Day/Ball. A motion was offered by Ms. Crook, seconded by Mr. Kanowitz and unanimously passed that the theme for the children's art project at Founders Day be "Aventura Five Years From Now." A motion was offered by Ms. Simmons, seconded by Mr. Kanowitz and unanimously passed to suspend Board meetings for the months of June, July and August. The next meeting was scheduled for September 25,2000 at 10 a.m. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned. Teresa M. Selection of Band for Founders Dav: Board members viewed a demo tape of the Sonny Mange Band as a consideration for Founders Day. Mr. Sherman conveyed to the Board Mr. Gustin's recommendation of the Simon Salz Band. After discussion, a motion was offered by Ms. Simmons and seconded by Ms. Rapp to recommend the Simon Salz Band to perform at Founders Day. The motion passed 5-1, with Ms. Brighton voting no. III.
