I. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Julie Israel.

II. Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the minutes of the May 13, 2004
meeting was offered by Ms. Levin, seconded by Mr. Joel and unanimously passed.
III. Founders Day Update: After discussion regarding selection of entertainment, a
motion was offered by Mr. Joel, seconded by Ms. Nesbitt and unanimously passed to
secure Michael McDonald as the main act and, if feasible, Aaron Carter as the opening
act for a total of $50,000 and if not feasible, that local talent be secured for opening act.
IV. Old Business: Members discussed expansion of the Rotating Arts Exhibit.
V. New Business - Mr. Soroka noted the dedication of Veterans Park scheduled
for June 18th at 10 a.m. and advised the Board of the website seNice CitySpeak. Mr.
Sherman's discussion included the Senior Prom, summer camp, Marlins game trip, 4th
of July activities, and proposed Trips and Tours. A motion to approve the Trips and
Tours September 2004 - February 2005 was offered by Ms. Levin, seconded by Mr.
Pyott and unanimously passed.
Dr. Albin submitted a proposal for formal garden and arbor in Founders Park. Members
were reminded that they may not communicate verbally or in writing outside of the
public meeting regarding any business that may be addressed by the Board.
A motion was offered by Ms. Epstein, seconded by Mr. Joel and unanimously passed to
cancel the regular meetings of the Board for the months of July and August.
VI. There being no further business to come before the Board, after motion made,
seconded and unanimously passed, the meeting was adjourned at 3:35 p.m.

SUBJECT: Community Recreation Center Fall Membership Drive
Recommendation:
The City Manager approve the following renewal incentives and programming to attract
new members for the CRC and encourage existing members to renew.
1. Offer a 3 month membership called a "Snowbird Membership".
2. Offer three 20% off coupons that may be used for any program offered in the
CRC.
3. Any member that refers a new member will receive a 20% off coupon for
recreation programs and a free month.
4. All new members who join and all members who renew their membership in
September and October will be entered in a drawing for free Miami Dolphin
football tickets. If this promotion works well, we can continue it for a winter
promotion offering Panther or Heat tickets.
We also have developed new programming that is targeted for seniors and youth that
are contained in the attached programming package.

Attachments:
In an effort to increase both membership and the amount of activities members are
enrolling in, the following package outlines various incentives, programs and marketing
strategies to achieve this goal.
Membershio renewal incentives
. All new members will receive one additional month during the month of October,
January and May.
. Offer a "Trial Membership" for 3 months at 40% of the annual rates.

. Develop a referral system where members that refer new annual memberships
receive a 20% OFF any class coupon and a free month towards their existing
membership.
. Develop a drawing for new and renewing members for 2 tickets to South Florida
home team games.

. Market the ability to bring a guest to programming and clubs on a limited basis at
certain key social programs including the Book Club which will meet monthly
from September 2004 through May 2005, the Mah Jongg Club and other popular
senior activities.
. New activities and events for youth including:
o After School Youth Calendar - Monday through Friday from 3 - 5 pm
there will be free activities, events and seminars for child and student
members.
o Babysitting Course for youth and student members (free).
o Aventura Club for Tweens (ACT) will begin meeting again in September
and will organize various fundraising activities, field trips and social
meetings. This year the ACT Club will be fundraising for an end of school
field trip to the Kennedy Space Center in May 2005.
. Implement youth and adult basketball leagues.
. "Celebrate Being Alive in 2005" - a wellness program for seniors focusing on
programs and activities to promote a fit mind, body and spirit including exercise,
nutrition, lectures, social and cultural activities including:
o CPRlfirst aid class for seniors (registration basis) - October 2004
o Senior Health Fair - January 2005
o Golden Heart Valentine's Day Dance - February 2005
o Duplicate bridge tournaments (monthly)
o Weekly clubs that are popular will be increased to twice per week
including the Mah Jongg and Bridge Clubs.
o Negotiations are pending with Florida International University to offer new
cultural and life long learning classes and programs at the Center.
o Intergenerational programming will be added to the member benefits
calendar to involve the ACT members and seniors in activities that both
can enjoy including:
Senior Games - a day in which seniors will teach their favorite games
to youth including mah jongg, bridge, scrabble, chess and other card
games.
Your Grandchildren's Games - the ACT club and other youth
members will spend an afternoon teaching seniors the games they like
to play including connect four, checkers and others.
"Game" Show Special Event - seniors will play against youth a variety
of tournaments including popular games from each age group.
Team Crafts - a youth member will team up with a senior member to
work on an art/craft project which the senior may keep.
Senior Oh'limpic Games - this take off on the Senior Games will
incorporate a day of games and activities that seniors can compete
Marketino Plan
. The Parks & Recreation Services Superintendent and Community Recreation
Center Manager will meet with condo association presidents to see what classes
and time periods are in competition and what needs are still not being met for
these groups. When meeting with condo associations, staff will try to develop
senior liaisons that may want to communicate needs, interests and possibly
volunteer in developing new clubs and programs.
. Distribution of materials at local shopping malls, the Aventura Mall information
booth as well as mall special events including an upcoming senior health fair.
. A separate press release will be issued focusing on the following age categories
and topics: Senior activities and new trial membership rate; youth activities and
family activities. All press releases will be issued to the newspapers, and placed
on the website, MuniVision, AM Radio, and City Speak. Press releases will be
blastfaxed to the condos as well as issued to the City of Excellence School. An
article in the Around Town section of the Aventura News will also be included.
. Lawn and news rack signs will be erected at key points in time including August
(back to school), October (snowbird renewal) and January.
. A banner may be hung inside the Aventura City of Excellence School for the first
week of school to inform parents about joining the CRC.
