05-16-2000 CITY OF AVENTURA BEAUTIFICATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MAY 16, 2000 9 A.M. AVENTURA GOVERNMENT CENTER 2999 NE 191sT STREET SUITE 500 AVENTURA, FLORIDA Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bob Diamond at 9:00 a.m. Members present: Bob Diamond Stuart Schulman Rubin Steiner Janice Albin Manny Grossman Members absent: Marian Nesbitt Fanny Fraynd Others present: City Manager Eric M. Soroka Commission subcommittee on flyover beautification: Commissioner Jay R. Beskin Commissioner Harry Hoizberg Commissioner Arthur Berger A motion to excuse the absences of Ms. Nesbitt and Ms. Fraynd was offered by Mr. Steiner, seconded by Mr. Grossman and unanimously passed. I1. Approval of Minutes. A motion was offered by Mr. Steiner, seconded by Mr, $chulman and unanimously passed to approve the minutes of the April 25, 2000 meeting. III. IV, VI. Chairman's Report. A motion was offered by Mr. Steiner, seconded by Mr. Schulman and unanimously passed that the Beautification Board work with the Recreation and Cultural Arts Advisory Board in that Board's efforts to secure art in the new Government Center facility. A motion was offered by Mr. Steiner, seconded by Mr. Grossman and unanimously passed to suspend the regular meetings in July and August 2000. Staff Report A. Beautification Project Update. Mr. Soroka updated members on current projects within the City. Other Business: Presentations ware made by representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation and William O'Leary Design Associates, the City's landscape architect, regarding beautification of the grade separation project. After much discussion, the Board and members of the Commission sub- Committee relating to this matter agreed to recommend that the City proceed with the landscape designs proposed by Mr. O'Leary, subject to the following: 1) that flowering hedges and trees be used on embankments; 2) that every effort be made to purchase the tallest trees possible; and 3) that the Aventura "green" color be utilized to paint the iron structure of the overpass.
