June 9, 1998 City Commission Meeting Agenda Item ~'-/'~
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that ti-e City Commission authorize the execution of the attached
Traffic Control Jurisdictio~ Agreement with the Country Club Estates Homeowners and
Maintenance Association 1~o provide traffic control jurisdiction by our Police Department
over the private roads within the condominium. The Agreement will increase the
visibility of the police fome and enhance traffic enfomement.
BACKGROUND
In our continued efforts to provide improved police services to the community, we have
initiated a program that all~ ~ws a condominium or homeowners associations to enter into
an Agreement with the Git ~ to provide traffic control jurisdiction over a private roadway
within the development. This permits the Police Department to conduct traffic
enforcement activities on ~rivate property at the request of the
owner.
Florida State Statute 311~.006 allows municipalities to enter into such agreements
provided they are reimbursed for the actual costs of traffic control and enforcement, the
the City and provide liability insurance.
~r $25.00 per hour for each officer required to perform the
when requested by the owner. Whenever possible, traffic
',cupants of the property will be responded to and handled as
a call for service, without c?arge to the owner.
