CALL TO ORDER
Pursuant to public notice, the meeting commenced at 4:32pm with a Call to Order by Vice-Chair Jorge
Garcia. Roll Call was taken, and at quorum was established.
I. ADMINISTRATIVE
FY2026 Advisory Board Membership—Parent Representative Acceptance
• Gimol Bentes and Eric Kane were voted by the parents of Don Soffer Aventura High
School to be the parent representatives on the advisory board.
MOTION: Motion was made by Nadine Laham and seconded by Michael Jacobs to accept Gimol
Bentes and Eric Kane as the parent representatives for the FY2026 school year, as presented.
Motion was approved unanimously. (3-0).
Chair and Vice-Chair Appointments
• The board discussed that the Chair was a parent, no longer on advisory, and needed to
elect a new Chair.
MOTION: Motion was made by Nadine Laham and seconded by Eric Kane to appoint Jorge Garcia
as the Chair of the Don Soffer Aventura High School advisory board, as presented. Motion was
approved unanimously. (5-0).
• The board discussed the Vice Chair appointment.
MOTION: Motion was made by Michael Jacobs and seconded by Jorge Garcia to appoint Nadine
Laham as the Vice Chair of the Don Soffer Aventura High School Advisory Board, as presented.
Motion was approved unanimously. (5-0).

Bylaws and Sunshine Law
• The board reviewed the advisory board bylaws and the sunshine law as it pertains to
them.
Approval of the DSAHS Advisory Board Meeting Minutes, September 18, 2025
• A board Approval of DSAHS Advisory Board Meeting Minutes.An edit was made to note
that Diane Gleit,a former parent representative,was absent at the last meeting.
MOTION: Motion was made by Eric Kane and seconded by Gimol Bentes to approve the Don
Soffer Aventura High School Advisory Board September 18, 2025, Meeting Minutes, as edited and
presented. Motion was approved unanimously. (5-0).
II. CSUSA REPORTS
Principal Report
• Principal McKee updated the board on club updates which included a presentation from a
hostage from Israel, Yair Horn. The principal also updated the board on a perfect ESE audit
from the district as well as CCR rates and early college acceptances.
III. FINANCIALS
• None
IV. OLD BUSINESS
• The board discussed the updates on the new school as well as other initiatives,such as
Al being implemented as a teaching and research tool.The board requested an Al
presentation from Deputy Dir. Rachel Windier Freitag.
V. NEW BUSINESS
There was no New Business.
VI. PUBLIC COMMENTS
• Diane Gleit updated the board on her participation on the committee for the new school
construction.
• Charles McCullough,a member of the community,advised the board that it was difficult
to get into the building and that as a new member of the community,he was happy to
see all the good things going on at the school.
VII. ADJOURMENT
MOTION: Motion was made by Nadine Laham and seconded by Gimol Bentes to adjourn the Don
Soffer Aventura High School Advisory Board meeting at 5:38pm. Motion was approved
unanimously. (5-0).
