HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2026-17 Urging Florida Legislature to Renew Funding for Florida NonProfit Security Grant Program - March 3, 2026CITY OF AVENTURA RESOLUTION NO. 2026-17 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF AVENTURA, FLORIDA, URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO RENEW FUNDING FOR THE FLORIDA NONPROFIT SECURITY GRANT PROGRAM ALLOWING FAITH -BASED AND COMMUNAL NONPROFIT INSTITUTIONS TO RECEIVE FUNDING TO ENHANCE THE SECURITY INFRASTRUCTURES AT THEIR FACILITIES; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO SUBMIT THIS RESOLUTION TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE FLORIDA SENATE, THE SPEAKER OF THE FLORIDA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY STATE LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION; PROVIDING FOR IMPLEMENTATION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Aventura (the "City") has a sizeable Jewish population and has adopted several resolutions and ordinances between 2018 and 2023 reaffirming the City's commitment to work proactively against all forms of antisemitic conduct wherever and whenever it may be encountered; and WHEREAS, the City recognizes the battle against antisemitism requires a marshaling of resources by all governmental institutions; and WHEREAS, national and statewide trends detailing increased acts of violence at faith -based and communal institutions, such as synagogues, churches, community centers and day schools underscore the vitality and importance of the Florida Nonprofit Security Grant Program (FL-NSGP) administered by the Florida Division of Emergency Management; and WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that this Resolution to urge the Florida Legislature to maintain $10 million in funding for the FL-NSGP program is in the best interest of the City and its residents. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF AVENTURA, FLORIDA: Section 1. Recitals Adopted. That the above stated recitals are hereby adopted and confirmed. Section 2. Maintain Funding of the FL-NSGP Program. That the City Commission hereby urges the Florida Legislature to continue to fund the FL-NSGP program in the amount of $10 million. City of Aventura Resolution No. 2026-17 Section 3. Implementation. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to submit this Resolution to the President of the Florida Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and all members of the Miami -Dade County State Legislation delegation and to take all necessary steps to implement this Resolution. The foregoing Resolution was offered by Vice Mayor Bloom, who moved its adoption.
