July 30, 2021 Art in Public Places Advisory Board Meeting Minutes • t AVENTURA ART IN PUBLIC PLACES ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES JULY 30, 2021 10:30 a.m. Aventura Government Center The meeting was held in the Executive Conference Room at Aventura Government Center, 19200 West Country Club Drive, Aventura. 1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by Ms. Lerner Adelson at 10:36 a.m. The roll was called and the following members were present: Adriana Lerner Adelson Dr. Helen Chaset Marina Kessler Dr. Miles Kuttler Absent: Marina Wecksler Also Present: Ronald J. Wasson, City Manager Ellisa L. Horvath, MMC, City Clerk Brian Raducci, Assistant City Manager 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — JULY 16, 2021: A motion to approve the July 16, 2021 minutes was offered by Dr. Chaset, seconded by Ms. Kessler and unanimously passed. 3. RANKING OF CITY PROPERTY FOR ART DISPLAY: Mr. Wasson reviewed the possible locations for displaying artwork throughout the City. Ms. Adelson reported on her meeting with the Aventura Mall and their openness to submitting a proposal to the City for approval, with an emphasis on creating an art activity for Founders Day. It was the consensus of the Board not to rank the property locations at this time, since there wasn't a project to consider. Dr. Chaset reported on her conversation with a metalwork company to present some proposals. Aventura City Art in Public Places Advisory Board Meeting Minutes—July 30, 2021 4. REVIEW OF CITY CODES/WORKING PAPER: Mr. Wasson reviewed the process for the donation/loan of artwork and the associated agreements that are needed. He also reported on the recent visit to the Britto factory with Mayor Weisman. The Board discussed the following items: prior discussion regarding artwork from Britto, developing a promotional statement, selecting a location for a competition with a call for proposals, and funding. Mr. Wasson provided information on the process for advertising for proposals, Board review of the submittals, and final submittal to the Commission. Mr. Raducci will provide a prior request for proposals for Mr. Wasson to circulate to the Board. The Board discussed the ranking of locations, with the focus of having three to five art installations along the Country Club Drive median. Following Board review of the Working Paper for the Art in Public Places Advisory Board, consensus was given to approve the revised definition for artist (from the July 16th meeting) and to include interactive art under the Criteria for Artwork. Dr. Chaset will provide an updated document. The Board discussed involving galleries, museums and art collectors. Each member will reach out to their contacts. It was the consensus of the Board for the first project to be for the median/swale along Country Club Drive. Mr. Wasson discussed insurance coverage and hold harmless agreements that would be needed. 5. DISCUSSION OF POSSIBLE PROJECTS: The Board discussed the possibility of interactive art at Founders Day through the use of a background and digital camera. Mr. Wasson suggested that the Board host a contest for art students, to begin with inviting the art/photography teachers to a meeting or giving them direction for a student art project. He will speak to the City's school principals, as well as Waterways, regarding future art project for students. The Board discussed the opportunity to encourage developers to provide artwork at new projects. Mr. Wasson will speak to the developers of upcoming projects. Mr. Wasson will graciously thank and advise the Aventura Hospital that the City will decline their offered art donation. 6. OTHER BUSINESS: None. 7. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None.
