Aventura Government Center 19200 West Country Club Drive Aventura, FL 33180 I. Call to Order/Roll Call: The meeting was called to order at 3:01 p.m. by Mr. Naim. The following members were present: Bruce Davidson Sandra Kaplan Donna Mairs Daniel Naim Jesse Potack' Sherry Superfine Absent: Marjorie Rosenblatt Others present: Commissioner Michael Stern Ronald J. Wasson, City Manager Ellisa L. Horvath, MMC, City Clerk Kimberly Merchant, Community Services Director Arleen Llanes, Executive Asst. to City Clerk Jay R. Smith, Administrative Assistant II. Public Comment: None. III. Approval of Minutes — September 21, 2023: A motion to approve the minutes of the September 21 , 2023 meeting was offered by Ms. Mairs, seconded by Ms. Superfine, and unanimously passed. IV. Staff Reports: a. Review of Fall Special Events: Ms. Merchant provided a review of the Fall special events including the Bicycle Ride with the Police, Halloween Movie Night, Founders Day Event, Veterans Day Ceremony, and Winter Wonderland. b. Review of Upcoming Special Events: Ms. Merchant provided information on the following upcoming special events as outlined on the agenda: Share the Road Bicycle 'Arrived at 3:03 p.m. at the beginning of the Staff Reports. 2 Via telephone. City of Aventura Community Services Advisory Board Meeting Minutes January 25, 2024 Event (February 11), Movie Nights (March 2 and April 20), "5k the Aventura Way" (April 14), Earth Day/Arbor Day (April 26), and a new Concert Series featuring the first concert at Snyder Park (February 25). c. Discussion of Valentine's Day "Pop-Up" Event: Ms. Merchant reviewed the plans for the distribution of flowers on February 14, 2024 at both Aventura Charter Schools. Following the discussion of the Board, a motion to approve the Valentine's Day "Pop-Up" plan as discussed was offered by Ms. Mairs, seconded by Mr. Davidson, and passed unanimously. d. Discussion of Future "Pop-Up" Events: Board Members discussed other possible "pop-up" events, with the final decision to provide an ice cream truck at the SplashPad on July 21 , 2024 to commemorate "National Ice Cream Day," with the time to be determined by Ms. Merchant. Following the discussion of the Board, a motion to approve the Ice Cream "Pop-Up" Event as discussed was offered by Ms. Kaplan, seconded by Mr. Davidson, and passed unanimously. e. Approval of "Go Green" Application: Ms. Merchant provided an overview of the "Go Green" award program, and presented the application form, which was the same as had been used in previous years. Following the discussion of the Board, a motion to accept the "Go Green" Award application form as presented was offered by Ms. Kaplan, seconded by Ms. Superfine, and approved unanimously. f. Review of Dog Park Access Improvements: Ms. Merchant reviewed the new access system that will be utilized at the Waterways Dog Park, which is anticipated to go live on February 12, 2024. V. Discussion of Next Meeting Date: A motion to schedule the next meeting for March 14, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. was offered by Mr. Potack, seconded by Mr. Davidson, and passed unanimously Mr. Wasson provided an overview of current and upcoming construction projects. VI. Adjournment: There being no further business to come before the Board, a motion to adjourn was offered by Mr. Davidson, seconded by Mr. Potack, and unanimously passed; thereby adjourning the meeting at 3:39 p.m. Ellisa L. Page 2 of 2 2024 Go GREEN Applicants Aventura Lakes Homeowners' Association • Drainage systems, catch basins, and wells throughout the community have been been thoroughly cleaned. • Approximately 30large planter pots at the community entrance have been replaced with new flowers. • All of ourAC units have been upgraded to newer, higher -rated (SEER) energy -efficient models, • Pool heat pumps have been installed with new energy -saving units • The light fixtures in the Clubhouse and pool deck area have also been replaced with LED bulbs. • All mailbox light fixtures have been retrofitted. • One of our 16 lake fountains has been upgraded with new control systems/motors designed to be more productive and consume less electricity. • In an effort to conserve water, we have engaged an irrigation team to regularly inspect and maintain the infrastructure of our 100-acre property. Rain sensors have been installed on the irrigation system to conserve water during rainfall, and our sprinkler time clocks have been adjusted for greater efficiency to reduce the system's runtime. • The association has partnered with a pest control company to manage the iguana population, an invasive species in South Florida. Over 300 iguanas have been successfully removed from the property, mitigating potential damage to landscaping and property as they burrow holes and pose safety hazards. • Our lake maintenance company annually stocks our lakes with 25,000 Mosquito fish (Gambusia holbrooki) for mosquito control. Additionally, a variety of fish are stocked for purposes such as improving fish populations, maintaining a balanced and diverse fishery, and reducing unsightly vegetation. Bellini Condo • Recycling program/initiatives • Irrigation/landscaping • Charging stations for electrical cars • HVAC Upgrades Bis a III Condominium Association • Partnered with Waste Management in ensuring recycling pick up takes place weekly. • New roof has six inches of insulation to protect units from heat and high electricity costs • Sprinklers are used three times per week with no negative effects on our landscaping. • All documents and announcements for residents are paperless. • LED and senor lighting has been installed in the parking lot, laundry rooms, and trash rooms. One Island Place • Emergency Exit Signs and Light Fixtures in Mechanical Rooms were replaced with more energy efficient ones. • HVAC was replaced with a more efficient one in 3 locations. • Condensate return water, now the condensate for our cooling towers recycles itself into the cooling towers (instead of into a drain)! • Implemented battery recycling program for the residents and staff • Educated residents on what is truly recyclable by sending out a -blast and information posted by garbage area. • Motion sensor lighting throughout property with LED lighting energy • Charging stations for electrical cars Page11 2024 Go GREEN Applicants G Point East Four Condominium Corporation, Inc • Creating gardening and landscape improvement committees. • Informing ground level residents how to create gardens of sustainable plantings. • Installing energy efficient light bulbs in all public areas, including elevators. • Installed motion sensors in laundry and storage rooms and interior walkways where practical. • Educating our residents to better practice recycling our four buildings, containing 318 units. Porto Vita Property Owner's Association • On -site linen washing machine is supplied with non -plastic, biodegradable detergent sheets • We have gone from wasteful spray bottles to a eucalyptus infusion machine that uses less oil and is a better experience for our members. • Flame less candles throughout the Spa use rechargeable batteries with more of our departments opting for this greener option. • Reef Safe/green packaging SPF line at our pool and Spa Boutique continues to be popular. • Human Resources and Spa Departments are two of our property -wide departments closing in on their goals of 100% paperlessdocument storage_ • Pay stubs for all 140 employees and contractors are now paperless as are all reviews and H.R, documentation. • All POA documents will be moved into the Cloud to reduce paper use. • We continued to minimize plastic use with employee and resident water refill stations and have saved thousands of bottles from landfills since their inception. • Our staff restrooms have sanitizing hot air hand dryers to end paper towel use. • Our Porto Vita branded water bottles & coffee tumblers also help minimize our single use beverage amenity supply. • Our upgraded fleet of "Golf" Carts are high -yield electric cart with increased range • Almost all lighting has been converted to low watt LED's throughout the property • Our HVAC system uses VFD's to cool the club with much less energy • Our Poo Print animal waste deterrent program minimizes pet waste getting into the soil and water ways • We minimize plastic food service items by using bamboo stirrers and durable recyclable straws. • Our cleaning supplies continue to feature more bio-degradable items like "Simple Green" • We participate in a cardboard recycling program to redirect recyclable materials from the landfill.
