September 21, 2023 Aventura Community Services Advisory Board Meeting Minutes e COMMUNITY SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES SEPTEMBER 21, 2023 3:00 P.M. Aventura Government Center 19200 West Country Club Drive Aventura, FL 33180 I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 3:04 p.m. by Ms. Kaplan'. The following members were present: Bruce Davidson Sandra Kaplan Daniel Naim2 Marjorie Rosenblatt Sherry Superfine Absent: Donna Mairs Jesse Potack Others present: Kimberly Merchant, Community Services Director Jay R. Smith, Administrative Assistant II. Public Comment: None. III. Approval of Minutes —August 17, 2023: A motion to approve the minutes of the August 17, 2023 meeting was offered by Ms. Rosenblatt, seconded by Mr. Davidson, and passed unanimously by voice vote. IV. Staff Reports: a. Programming Updates: Ms. Merchant provided an update on the program enrollment at the Community Recreation Center and within the parks. b. Recap of Senior "Pop-Up" Event and Share the Road Bicycle Event: Ms. Merchant provided a recap of both the Senior "Pop-Up" Event and the Share the Road Bicycle Event. Board Members reported on the success of both events. c. Discussion of Upcoming Special Events: Ms. Merchant provided information on the following upcoming events: 'Vice Chair- served as Chair throughout the entire meeting. 2 Arrived at 3:23 p.m. during the discussion of the Founders Day Event. City of Aventura Community Services Advisory Board Meeting Minutes September 21, 2023 Halloween Movie Night — October 21 , 2023: Ms. Merchant reported on the Halloween Movie Night scheduled at Peace Park including the date change due to parking accessibility, location change due to the closure of Founders Park, and the limitation of 300 guests through a ticketing process. Celebrating America's Veterans — November 11 , 2023: Ms. Merchant reported on the Veterans Day Ceremony scheduled at the Aventura Government Center. Founders Day— November 12, 2023: Ms. Merchant presented the proposed plan for the Founders Day Event scheduled at Gulfstream Park including the possibility of scheduling the event from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. (instead of noon to 5 p.m.) due to limited shade options at Gulfstream Park, displayed the marketing material, and explained the pre-registration requirement for residents to attend. Following discussion by the Board, a motion to approve the plans for the Founders Day Event as presented was offered by Ms. Rosenblatt , seconded by Mr. Naim, and passed unanimously by voice vote. Winter Wonderland — December 5, 2023: Ms. Merchant reported on the Winter Wonderland Event scheduled at the Aventura Government Center again. d. Discussion of Future "Pop-Up" Events: Ms. Merchant noted the popularity of the previous Valentine's Day "Pop-Up" flower distribution event and requested input on holding a similar event on Valentine's Day 2024. Following discussion by the Board, a motion to have a Valentine's Day "Pop-up" Event was offered by Ms. Kaplan, seconded by Ms. Rosenblatt, and passed unanimously by voice vote. Mr. Davidson will assist Ms. Merchant with obtaining the flowers. V. Discussion of Next Meeting Date — Thursday, January 11, 2024: The next meeting was scheduled for January 11 , 2024 at 3.00 p.m. in the Executive Conference Room. VI. Adjournment: There being no further business to come before the Board, a motion to adjourn was offered by Ms. Rosenblatt, seconded by Ms. Superfine, and unanimously passed-, thereby adjourning the meeting at 3.43 p.m. Ellisa L.
