COMMUNITY SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES
OCTOBER 13, 2022

I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m. by Mr. Stern'. The
following members were present:

The following staff members in attendance were introduced: Park Attendant Jon
Schaapveld and Jamie Evers, Park Manager.
II. Public Comment: None.
III. Approval of Minutes — September 15, 2022: A motion to approve the minutes of
the September 15, 2022 meeting was offered by Ms. Rosenblatt, seconded by Ms.
Superfine, and unanimously passed.

IV. City Manager Reports: Mr. Wasson provided information on several projects in
the process to upgrade the parks including the installation of FieldTurf (artificial turf) on
the fields at both Waterways Park and Founders Park, improved lighting to extend play
after dark and increased programming, and the addition of three tennis courts and six
pickleball courts.
V. Staff Reports:
a. October 22 "Pop-Up Event: Ms. Merchant provided updates on the
upcoming "Make a Dog's Day" pop-up event scheduled for October 22, 2022 at the dog
park, in conjunction with National Make a Dog's Day. The bandanas and portable water
bowls for distribution at the event were displayed. Items will also be provided to the Board
members wishing to distribute them to dog owners in their buildings. Photography to use
for publicity of the event was discussed, with arrangements to be made by Ms. Merchant.
Ms. Merchant noted that Mr. Schaapveld would be the on-site attendant and contact
person during the event.
b. Holiday Lighting Event — Tentative December 6: Ms. Merchant provided an
overview of the City's first holiday lighting event tentatively scheduled for December 6,
2022, on the second floor outdoor plaza of the Aventura Government Center. Following
Board discussion, Ms. Merchant will seek guidance regarding the lighting of the menorah
in advance of Hanukkah.
c. Upcoming Events: Ms. Merchant provided information on upcoming events
including Halloween Movie Night and Trunk or Treat (October 29th), Veterans Day
Ceremony (November 11t"), and Founders Day (November 13tn)
Ms. Merchant reported that future pop-up events would be discussed with the Board once
new members were seated.
Following the announcement that this was Mr. Stern's last meeting, the Board thanked
Commissioner-Elect Michael Stern for his service and wished him the best of luck in his
new role on the City Commission effective November 15, 2022.
The next meeting was tentatively scheduled for December 8, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the
Executive Conference Room.
VI. Adjournment: There being no further business to come before the Board, a
motion to adjourn was offered by Ms. Rosenblatt, seconded by Ms. Kaplan, and
unanimously passed; thereby adjourning the meeting at 3:34 p.m.

than one property in each category. Judges decisions are final and based on the applicant's information.
All entries must be accompanied by a written narrative (100 words max.) explaining the details of the applicant's
efforts including any photos and must be signed by the applicant. Please ensure all entries are thoroughly
completed upon submission as incomplete entries will not be considered.

Awards will be presented at the City of Aventura Earth Day/Arbor Day Ceremony on Friday, April 28, 2023.
