March 3, 2022 Youth Advisory Board Meeting Minutes • YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES MARCH 3, 2022 5:30 P.M. Aventura Government Center 19200 W. Country Club Drive Aventura, FL 33180 The meeting was held in the 5th Floor Executive Conference Room at the Aventura Government Center. 1. Call to Order/Roll Call: The meeting was called to order at 5:41 p.m. by Ms. Wesley. City of Aventura Youth Advisory Board Meeting Minutes March 3, 2022 2. Approval of Minutes — January 31, 2022: A motion to approve the January 31 , 2022 meeting minutes was offered by Ms. Freitas, seconded by Ms. Taryn Shein, and unanimously passed. 3. Discussion of Participation in City Events and Meetings: Mrs. Horvath thanked the Board members who attended the March 1st Commission Meeting and encouraged continued attendance at future meetings. The members who attended the meeting provided information on the items discussed by the City Commission. Mr. Pegues explained the upcoming Two Turnberry project that will tie into the pedestrian walkway over Biscayne Boulevard from the Brightline station. Jay Smith, Community Service Department Administrative Assistant, reported on upcoming City events. Board members will be provided with available volunteer opportunities via email. 4. Discussion of Project: The Board discussed the concept for the Aventura Strong project as presented at the January 31 st meeting. Mr. Combrinck discussed the two groups (virtual communication and physical communications) that the members had signed up for, as an initial step for the project. He provided clarification on the use of the strength stones as the launch piece and the need for the Board to focus on providing the message to distribute the stones in a meaningful way. The Board discussed the message that the stones should convey, with the emphasis being a strong sense of community and as a reminder that the holder was a part of something. It was the consensus of the Board for the mission statement for the project to include the following wording: "a mental health initiative led by the Youth Advisory Board to rebuild our minds and bodies, reignite our passions, and reconnect our community." The Board discussed social media that could be established including the following: website, Nextdoor application, Instagram, Facebook, and email. Mr. Pegues discussed upcoming City events that the Board could provide information on the project at. Board members were assigned to groups for the delegation of duties focused mainly on virtual communications, with some assigned to physical communications, and goals for the next meeting were discussed. Adjournment: There being no further business to come before the Board, a motion to adjourn the meeting was offered by Ms. Taryn Shein, seconded by Ms. Freitas, and unanimously passed; thus, adjourning the meeting at 6.55 p.m. Ellisa L.
