LIAISON MEETING MINUTES

10:00 a.m.
The meeting was held via video conferencing through Zoom, as specified on the
meeting notice and as a result of the continued state of emergency due to COVID-19.
A City of Aventura Commission Liaison Meeting was held on November 20, 2020 and
called to order at 10:00 a.m. The following Commission Liaison members were in
attendance: Vice Mayor Robert Shelley and Commissioner Dr. Linda Marks. Also
present were Mayor Enid Weisman, Commissioner Jonathan Evans, Commissioner
Rachel S. Friedland, City Manager Ronald J. Wasson, City Clerk Ellisa L. Horvath,
Assistant City Manager — Finance & Administration Brian Raducci, Don Soffer Aventura
High School Principal David McKnight, and Aventura City of Excellence School Principal
Anthony Tyrkala.
Principal Tyrkala provided an update, which included the following items discussed:
COVID-19, testing, communicating with the Don Soffer Aventura High School regarding
incoming students from ACES, quarantining procedures, preparing for complete mobile
learning, reaching out to Aventura Hospital and Posnack School for guidance and
protocols to follow regarding COVID-19, sibling cases, and devices for students.
Principal McKnight provided an update, which included the following items discussed:
addressing the lateness of the iPad shipment and distribution to students, having a
discussion with Charter Schools USA regarding those issues as well as the lateness of
other items, the possibility of the City paying for certain items and being reimbursed to
alleviate any future delays in items ordered, the requested attendance of the President
of Charter Schools USA at the next meeting to address those issues, the presentation
of the curriculum for 11th and 12th grade to be provided at the January 21st workshop,
working with the DSAHS Foundation Board and the need for the Principal to agree with
those items being presented to the Commission, advising the Commission of major
activities at the high school, nurses, and enhancing social media.
No members of the public provided comments.
The meeting adjourned at 10:53 a.m.
