April 28, 2021 City Commission Liaison Meeting Minutes CITY COMMISSION LIAISON MEETING MINUTES APRIL 28, 2021 11:00 A.M. Aventura Government Center 19200 West Country Club Drive, Aventura, FL A City of Aventura Commission Liaison Meeting was held in the Commission Chamber on April 28, 2021 and called to order at 11 .06 a.m. The following Commission Liaison members were in attendance: Commissioner Dr. Linda Marks. Vice Mayor Robert Shelley was absent. Also present were Mayor Enid Weisman, Commissioner Jonathan Evans, Commissioner Rachel S. Friedland, City Manager Ronald J. Wasson, City Clerk Ellisa L. Horvath, and Charter Schools USA representatives Jonathan Hage, President & Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. David Christiansen, Chief of Schools. Mr. Wasson reported on Don Soffer Aventura High School and announced that Principal David McKnight would be leaving at the end of the school year and the name of his replacement would be provided in the near future. The following items were discussed: providing a clear grade K-12 education alignment, possible locations for the enlargement of ACES to be discussed at a future Commission Workshop, the current models at ACES and DSAHS, the current starting grade of the gifted program in second grade, and the goal of making ACES a national blue ribbon school. Dr. Christiansen provided comments on the Charter Schools USA gifted program at their school in Palm Beach. Mr. Wasson will request ACES Principal Tyrkala to attend the next meeting to address certain items. Mr. Wasson and Charter Schools USA, with the assistance of Principal Tyrkala, will work together to create a curriculum model to present to create a K-12 experience. No members of the public provided comments. The next Commission Liaison meeting was scheduled for May 13, 2021 at 11 .00 a.m. The meeting adjourned at 12.45 p.m. Ellisa L. Horvath, MMC, City Clerk
