Copies of agenda items can also be requested through the Office of the City Clerk at 305-466-8901 or cityclerk@cityofaventura.com. c wry a� 5x AVENTURA ART IN PUBLIC PLACES ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES JULY 16, 2021 10:30 a.m. Aventura Government Center The meeting was held in the Executive Conference Room at Aventura Government Center, 19200 West Country Club Drive, Aventura. 1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by Ms. Lerner Adelson at 10:38 a.m. The roll was called and the following members were present: Adriana Lerner Adelson Dr. Helen Chaset Marina Kessler Dr. Miles Kuttler Marina Wecksler Also Present: Mayor Enid Weisman Ronald J. Wasson, City Manager Ellisa L. Horvath, MMC, City Clerk 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — JULY 7, 2021: A motion to approve the July 7, 2021 minutes was offered by Dr. Chaset, seconded by Ms. Wecksler and unanimously passed. 3. CITY -OWNED LOCATIONS FOR ART DISPLAY: Mr. Wasson distributed and reviewed his memo listing the possible locations for displaying artwork throughout the City. The Board additionally discussed the following locations that are not City owned: underneath the William Lehman Causeway Bridge and upcoming Brightline pedestrian access bridge across Biscayne Boulevard. Mr. Wasson suggested that the Board focus on City -owned locations and start by selecting one location from the list. It was the consensus of the Board for members to review the list provided by Mr. Wasson for discussion and ranking at the next meeting. Following a request and consensus of the Board, the following item was taken out of order: Aventura City Art in Public Places Advisory Board Meeting Minutes — July 16, 2021 5. UPDATE FROM MALL AND GALLERY LOAN PROGRAM: Ms. Lerner Adelson reported on her meeting with the marketing team for Turnberry and their interest in the City's art program and possible joint projects, with an offer to provide space for a City art show. She additionally reported on their interest to be able to provide artwork in the mall parking lots and exterior, which currently wasn't allowed per the City's Code. Ms. Lemer Adelson still needs to discuss a loan program with them for City properties. Ms. Lerner Adelson discussed the concept of a temporary art project and explained projects done by French photographer/artist JR. The Board discussed temporary art projects and message art, as well as art pieces. Mayor Weisman provided comments. 4. ART IN PUBLIC PLACES ADVISORY BOARD POLICY (Donations. etc.): Dr. Chaset reviewed the Working Paper for Art in Public Places Advisory Board that she drafted for the Board's input, which included the following: Vision, Mission, Definitions, Criteria for Artwork, Potential Projects, and Methods of Selection for Public Art. The Board reviewed the definition of an artist and discussed the student artwork on the City shuttle buses and the need to include young and emerging artists, etc. It was the consensus of the Board to change the definition for artist, with the possibility of providing several definitions including something that evokes an emotion. Mayor Weisman introduced the City's intern Carolina Wesley and provided comments. Mrs. Horvath explained that the City Commission or the Board could request input from the Youth Advisory Board on certain art projects should they wish to. The Board discussed possible funding opportunities from sponsors, developers, Miami - Dade County, etc. Mr. Wasson suggested that the Board's first project be done at the Arts & Cultural Center. The Board discussed possibly working with JR or another artist to provide an idea for the City for Founder's Day. Possible scopes for the first project were discussed including the following: interactive art to involve the public, provided at Founder's Day, and something to stay through the winter. The following items will be discussed at the next meeting: ranking of City property for art display, review of City Codes and Working Paper, and ideas of an interactive project. 6. OTHER BUSINESS: The next meeting was scheduled for July 30, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. 7. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None.
