96-046 RESOLUTION NO. 96-46
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF AVENTURA, FLORIDA, OBJECTING TO THE NON-
BINDING QUESTION RELATING TO MUNICIPAL
REVENUE SHARING THAT WILL APPEAR ON THE
NOVEMBER 5, 1996 BALLOT; URGING ALL CITIZENS
TO VOTE NO BASED ON THE UNFAIR BURDEN IT
WOULD PLACE ON TAXPAYERS OF THE CITY OF
AVENTURA; AND, PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, a non-binding question relating to municipal revenue sharing has
been placed on the November 5, 1996 ballot by the Dade County Commission which
creates a municipal revenue sharing pool, to be allocated on the basis of population
among all municipalities and the unincorporated area, and funded by the levy of up to 3
mills of ad valorem taxes in both the municipalities and the unincorporated area; and
WHEREAS, this proposal could result in a $3.9 million revenue loss to the City of
Aventura and a 1.6 mills tax increase to the citizens of Aventura; and
WHEREAS, the City council of the City of Aventura feels that this places an
unfair burden on the taxpayers of the City of Aventura which would result in their
subsidizing service requirements in the unincorporated area and other municipalities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AVENTURA, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. This Council objects to the non-binding question relating to
municipal revenue sharing that will appear on the November 5, 1996 ballot.
Section 2. This Council urges all citizens to vote no to this ballot question
based on the unfair burden it would place on the taxpayers of the City of Aventura.
