A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
AVENTURA, FLORIDA, URGING MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AND
MUNICIPALITIES WITHIN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY TO SUPPORT CITY,
COUNTY, STATE AND FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND STATE
AND FEDERAL PROSECUTORS IN COMBATTING HUMAN
TRAFFICKING; IN PREPARATION OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY'S
HOSTING OF SUPER BOWL LIV; PROVIDING FOR DISTRIBUTION;
AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Super Bowl LIV will be Miami-Dade County's record-breaking
eleventh time hosting a Super Bowl; and
WHEREAS, marquee events such as the Super Bowl attract tourist related
economic activity, generate invaluable media exposure and expand Miami-Dade
County's position as an international hub for sports and entertainment; and
WHEREAS, unfortunately, the City has been advised that events such as
the Super Bowl may cause an increased danger for a rise in incidents of human
trafficking, including sex-trafficking, and related offenses; and
WHEREAS, local, state, and federal law enforcement and state and federal
prosecutors are stepping up efforts to combat human trafficking and related offenses
which may arise, and need the support and cooperation of local governments in
those efforts; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the residents of Miami-Dade County for
the County and all municipalities to support the anti-human trafficking efforts of law
enforcement, prosecutors, and non-profit social service entities to take additional
measures to combat and prevent human trafficking in connection with the upcoming
Super Bowl LIV.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF AVENTURA, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. Recitals Adopted. The above-stated recitals are incorporated
herein by reference.

Section 2. Request. The City Commission respectfully requests the County
and all municipalities within Miami-Dade County to support the efforts of local, state,
and federal law enforcement, state and federal prosecutors, and local social service
non-profit entities, in combatting human trafficking, including sex-trafficking, and
related crimes, in connection with preparation for and hosting of the upcoming Super
Bowl LIV, in accordance with applicable laws.
Section 3. Distribution. The City Commission requests the City Clerk to send
a copy of this Resolution to the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, the Miami-Dade
County League of Cities, the Florida FDLE, and the regional FBI office, and to all
other interested parties.
Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall be effective immediately
upon adoption.
The foregoing Resolution was offered by Commissioner Shelley, who moved its
adoption. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Weinberg, and upon being put to
a vote, the vote was as follows:
