May 2, 2019 City Commission Liaison Meeting Minutes ;The City Of CITY COMMISSION LIAISON MEETING MINUTES tventura MAY 2, 2019 Aventura Government Center 2:00 p.m. 19200 W.Country Club Drive Aventura, Florida 33180 A City of Aventura Commission Liaison Meeting was held on May 2, 2019 and called to order at 2:02 p.m. The following Commission Liaison members were in attendance: Vice Mayor Dr. Linda Marks. Commissioner Robert Shelley was absent. Also present were Mayor Enid Weisman, City Consultant Eric M. Sorokal, City Clerk Ellisa L. Horvath, Don Soffer Aventura High School Principal David McKnight, Charter Schools USA Vice President of Education Rachel Windler-Freitag, and Charter Schools USA Director of Curriculum Jessica Granino. Mr. McKnight and Ms. Windler-Freitag distributed and reviewed the following: hiring update for administrative and instruction staff, as well as course listing by cohort level. Mr. McKnight will follow up on the items discussed including the following: bringing in teachers earlier for specific training, reviewing the charter contract regarding the grade booking application, reviewing the scope and sequence of the curriculum to determine if it includes curriculum that colleges are looking for in high school graduates, contacting the Florida High School Athletic Association again regarding certification of the athletic program, and establishing a relationship with Florida International University. Mr. Soroka reviewed the Don Soffer Aventura High School Update for April 2019, which highlighted the following items: Construction for April and May (interior, exterior, and Gym), Operational (hiring data for administrative and instructional staff), and the anticipated opening date in August 2019. Mr. McKnight will discuss the possibility of using space at the Community Recreation Center or Government Center, with the City Manager, if it is needed prior to the issuance of the certificate of occupancy for the school. Charter Schools USA will look into ordering the technology items now instead of waiting, to provide to the hired teachers. The meeting adjourned at 4:24 p.m. Ellisa L.
