MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 28, 2019 — 3:00 p.m.

I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m. by Mr. Stern. The
following members were present:
Michael Stern
Sandra Kaplan
Daniel Naim
Sherry Superfine
Absent: Jonathan Evans

Others present: Mayor Enid Weisman
Ronald J. Wasson, City Manager
Ellisa L. Horvath, MMC, City Clerk
Kimberly Merchant, Community Services Director
II. Public Comment: The following members of the public provided comments:
Marjorie Rosenblatt (Mystic Pointe).
III. Approval of Minutes — December 4, 2018: A motion to approve the minutes of
the December 4, 2018 meeting was offered by Mr. Naim, seconded by Ms. Superfine,
and unanimously passed.
IV. Staff Reports:
a. Go Green Applications: Mrs. Merchant distributed and reviewed the 14 Go
Green Applicants received for 2019.
A motion to approve the 14 listed applicants was offered by Ms. Kaplan, seconded by
Mr. Naim, and unanimously passed.
b. Event Reports and Upcoming Dates: Mrs. Merchant reported on the following
City events: Ride with the Aventura Police on February 24th, with over 400 in
attendance, and upcoming Movie Nights, on March 2nd and April 13th
Mrs. Merchant will send out information on the upcoming Earth Day/Arbor Day
celebration, scheduled for April 25th at 9:30 a.m., at the Aventura Arts & Cultural
Center. Board members will be presenting the Go Green awards at the ceremony.

c. Dreaming Tree: Mrs. Merchant explained the concept of a Dreaming Tree, for
people to provide written notations on cards to be placed on the tree, as suggested by
an Aventura resident. The Board discussed the concept, as well as security,
censorship, maintenance, location, and the use of a real tree.
A motion to provide a recommendation to the Commission to place a Dreaming Tree at
Founders Park, for a six-month trial period, was offered by Mr. Naim, seconded by Ms.
Kaplan, and unanimously passed.
The following additional items were discussed by the Board
Following discussion, it was the consensus of the Board to invite a professional
specializing in art festivals to attend a meeting and provide information to the Board on
the feasibility of having an art festival in Aventura.
An idea to install Little Free Libraries at some of the City's parks was discussed and not
recommended, due to issues with theft and maintenance.
The next meeting was scheduled for April 18, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.
V. Adjournment: There being no further business to come before the Board, a
motion to adjourn was offered by Ms. Superfine, seconded by Ms. Kaplan, and
unanimously passed; thereby adjourning the meeting at 3:49 p.m.
