Community Information Session
for Proposed Charter High School in Aventura
Charter Schools USA in conjunction with the City of Aventura are holding a Community Information
Session regarding a new Charter High School to serve students in the City of Aventura. This
information session will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about the proposed school
and provide input on potential academic offerings. This session will also offer the opportunity
to pledge your support for the school via a signed petition that is needed to demonstrate
community interest for the school as we seek approval from the school district.
Admissions/lottery policies will not be discussed at this meeting, but will be considered at the
City Commission Meeting on June 14, 2017 at 6PM.

Proposed Academy Model
An Academy Model is:
• A small learning community comprised of a group of students within the larger high school
who take classes together, taught by a team of teachers from different disciplines
• A college preparatory curriculum with a career theme, enabling students to see
relationships among academic subjects and their application to a broad field of work
• Partnerships with employers, the community, and local colleges to provide resources to the
high school to improve student motivation and achievement

• All freshmen will be part of a family within the Freshman Academy
• Each family will be assigned a Guidance Counselor and a core group of teachers
• Each faculty member is assigned a small group of freshmen in an
advisor/advisee program
• Meets with the student at least 4 times/year to review academic progress and general high
school transition
• Meets with the parent/guardian at least once each semester
• Assists with determining an academic plan for the student's remaining years of high school
• Advisors continue meeting with their students throughout high school to assist with student
academic needs
