Proposed Revisions to Community Services
Economic Development Advisory Board
Advisory Board and
TO:
DATE:
SUBJECT:
The terms of all the members of the two referenced City advisory boards expired.
Normally, the City Commission would be requested to begin the re-appointment
process.
In order to fill the thirteen (13) appointments as required by Ordinance, in the past, each
member of the Commission recommended an individual to the Mayor. In addition, the
City Commission, after interviewing applicants, recommended six (6) other individuals
to the Boards. All appointments are subject to the approval of the City Commission.
Prior to addressing the Board vacancies, it is recommended that the City Commission
consider the following actions:
Reduce the size of the Community Services Advisory Board to seven
members. The current composition of the board creates quorum issues and
is too large a size for a board to operate.
2
Sunset the Economic Development Board. The board has not met since April
2003 when it issued a recommendation on the Hospital District. Attempts to
spur more economic development no longer appear to be a priority and
redevelopment issues can be addressed though the Comprehensive Plan
update.
