COMMUNITY SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD MEETING

I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jonathan Evans
at 3 p.m.

II. Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the minutes of the March 24, 2010
meeting was offered by Mrs. Israel, seconded by Mrs. Cohen and unanimously
passed.
III. Staff Reports: Community Services Director Robert Sherman provided a
summary of the events of Arbor Day and the following upcoming programs:
Hurricane Summit scheduled for June 9th, summer camp and July 4th activities.
The following suggestions were made by members regarding Founders Day:
move to Founders Park North, expand kids' performances, provide pick -up
games for kids, expand face painting, consider Mummers -type group, tennis
serve speed activity using radar, open of Splash Pad for the day. Some
suggestions offered by Mr. Sherman: have entire crowd participate in
spontaneous line dance, starting from stage performers and have "undercover
motivators" in crowd, all staff and contracted personnel in activity booths stop
what they are doing and lead their crowd in the line dance. Teen program
concept to be discussed in detail at next meeting.
The next meeting was scheduled for September 8, 2011 at 3 p.m.
IV. Adjournment: There being no further business to come before the Board, after
motion made, seconded and unanimously passed, the meeting was adjourned at
3:20 p.m.

Dance Central"

• UV Ray Beading Experience:
■ Using UV Ray beads to create bracelets; participants will learn the
importance of sun safety and the effects exposure to the sun has on
people as the beads turn various colors after being exposed to the
sun's rays
• Quicksand Tub:
■ Using corn flour and water participants will get a hands on
demonstration on the effects of quicksand
• Magnet Stations:
■ Using various magnetic objects participants will learn hands on about
magnetic principles, positive and negative poles and charges, etc.
✓ ACES Puzzle Mural, where every puzzle piece becomes a part of the
mural.
✓ Theater and Interactive Games Tent featuring bingo, and balloon
twisting.
✓ Bridge lessons and games, Mah -Jong, scrabble, dominoes, cribbage
and board games.
✓ Test your putting skills at our Putt Putt Golf Course (9 holes)
✓ Makeover Madness: Features glitter, glam, braids, bows, Mohawks
and spikes with a touch of your favorite colors.

✓ Backyard activities: Featuring a DJ, dance contests, lawn games, punt
pass and kick contests, hula hoops competitions, tug of war, three
legged races, relay races, jump rope stations, volleyball, parachute

racquets, slower balls, reduced court dimensions and modified
scoring to assist children in learning and enjoy the benefits of
tennis.
