04-23-2009 WorkshopQ~ ,.vim MINUTES CITY COMMISSION Aventura Government Center WORKSHOP MEETING 19200 W. Country Club Drive Aventura, Florida 33180 April 23, 2U~9 -following 9 a.m. Commission mtg. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by Mayor Susan Gottlieb at 9:25 a.m. Present were Commissioners Zev Auerbach, Bob Diamond, Billy Joel, Michael Stern, Luz Urbaez Weinberg, Vice Mayor Teri Holzberg, Mayor Gottlieb, City Manager Eric M. Soroka, City Clerk Teresa M. Soroka and City Attorney David M. Wolpin. As a quorum was determined to be present, the meeting commenced. 1. JEWISH COMMUNITY SERVICES REQUEST FOR SUPPORT OF FEDERAL FUNDING FOR NORC PROGRAM (Mayor Gottlieb): Ella Goldfarb, representing Jewish Community Services, addressed the Commission requesting support for federal funding of the Naturally Occurring Retirement Community program. CITY MANAGER SUMMARY: Consensus to provide letter of support for the program and federal funding. 2. COUNTY REQUIREMENT FOR PARKING AREA LIGHTING (City Attorney): Mr. Wolpin discussed the requirements for parking area lighting set forth by Miami-Dade County and the need for amendment of the County's regulations. Mel Taks, representing Point East Corporation IV, addressed the Commission regarding this issue and its effect on Point East and requested assistance from the Commission. CITY MANAGER SUMMARY: It was consensus for City Manager to discuss this issue with Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally Heyman and report back at future workshop. Commissioner Auerbach proposed correspondence be sent to U. S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and U. S. Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz regarding the use and implementation of solar energy by local governments, requesting their monetary assistance directly or indirectly through power companies. 3.
